In the mood for something a little different this year for Valentine’s Day? Instead of being corralled into an overcrowded restaurant followed by the obligatory chick flick, why not think outside the box and get a little creative? Here are some great ideas for a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend at home, just you and your sweetie.
Set the Mood
If you’re staying in for Valentine’s Day, it’s important to make the atmosphere feel different than your everyday home experience. Think romance: candles, rose petals, music, flowers in vases, perhaps a bit of incense? No need to slouch around just because you’re at home – why not dress up and add a bit of mystique to the experience?
Use Some Props
Don’t be afraid to use props in creating your romantic encounter: bubble bath, stuffed animals, a romantic movie playing in the background, champagne glasses, a beautifully set table, pillows on the floor, soft textures like feathers or plush velvet…the possibilities are virtually endless.
Include Food
Few things are quite as inherently sensual as food – so let food work to your advantage. It doesn’t have to be all about amorous foods like oysters and chocolate, either – in this case, think texture. Smooth and silky (like velvet soups, creamy custards, and rich risotto) or richly decadent (lobster, steak, dark chocolate or scallops) can help set the mood. Even food as simple as fruit like grapes or strawberries become positively intoxicating when fed to your sweetheart. (If you’re a social drinker, it wouldn’t hurt to have a few bottles of quality wine chilling in the fridge, either!)
Create the Ambiance
One of the most interesting ways to create a wonderfully romantic weekend at home is with a rental projector. Remember to leave some unplanned time and space in your romantic weekend at home. After all, while it’s nice to have some planned meals or activities, part of the fun is seeing what happens in the spaces in-between. Spontaneity is an integral part of any romantic encounter.
