Celebrating Dad with a Rental Projector

June 6th, 2011

June 19, 2011 is Father’s Day once again, and why settle for giving dad a boring tie or wallet this year? Instead, stretch your imagination and give your father something he’ll really enjoy – something truly unique. An LCD rental projector provides the perfect gift for the man who’s always been there for you, and he’ll be excited beyond belief to receive this truly thoughtful and innovative gift.

Why Rent a Projector?

Giving your dad a rental projector is better than actually purchasing an LCD projector for a number of reasons. For starters, if you bought him a high-quality projector, he’d likely insist that you spent too much money. Whereas, a rental projector is affordable, providing just the right level of indulgence for Father’s Day.

Secondly, buying a projector for dad means one more thing he’ll need to store, clean, and maintain. In contrast, a rental projector is ideal for a weekend of family fun, without the expense and hassles of ongoing maintenance.

Finally, when you rent a projector for your dad, you can give him what he really wants – a weekend with the family, with everyone gathered together.

How to Celebrate with a Projector

Here are our top three favorite ways to celebrate Father’s Day with an LCD rental projector.

1. Film Fest of Dad’s Faves. Pick out some of your dad’s absolute favorite movies or older television shows, pop some popcorn and let the film fest begin. You might stick to a theme (Dirty Harry, westerns, action films, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gunsmoke, Rockford Files, Seinfeld, etc.) or you might choose to mix it up. Remember to include a broad range of dad’s favorite snacks, from appetizers to salty-crunchy snacks to sweets.

2. Family Movies. If your dad is like most dads, he was the one behind the camera at most family events. Many services (online and locally) offer still-to-DVD transition, as well as VHS-to-DVD conversion. This means you can collect the family’s favorite home movies and have them converted to DVD for everyone’s enjoyment. What better way to view home movies than in larger-than-life format with a DVD projector rental?

3. Night at the Movies. In this diverse type of film fest, each person chooses a movie dad hasn’t likely seen, but that he’s sure to love. You might include “Night at the Museum,” “Grumpy Old Men,” or “The Bucket List.”

Can’t decide among the above options? You can always combine options or let dad choose his favorites. Whatever you choose, remember to rent a projector from Projector123.com. You’ll get a reliable, professional-grade LCD rental projector that’s easy to set up and won’t break the bank (especially if you can get all dad’s kids to chip in). Celebrating Memorial Day

May 27th, 2011

We recently discovered this article about the history of Memorial Day and how it’s changed throughout the years. Whether you’re planning to enjoy a long three-day weekend of barbecuing and socializing, or you prefer to rent a projector and hang out at home watching movies with the family, why not take a few minutes to appreciate the significance of this holiday and acknowledge the soldiers who have given their lives for our country. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend from your friends at Projector123.com.

/>Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation’s Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:

The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.

During the first celebration of Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery.

This 1868 celebration was inspired by local observances of the day in several towns throughout America that had taken place in the three years since the Civil War. In fact, several Northern and Southern cities claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day, including Columbus, Miss.; Macon, Ga.; Richmond, Va.; Boalsburg, Pa.; and Carbondale, Ill.

In 1966, the federal government, under the direction of President Lyndon Johnson, declared Waterloo, N.Y., the official birthplace of Memorial Day. They chose Waterloo—which had first celebrated the day on May 5, 1866—because the town had made Memorial Day an annual, community-wide event during which businesses closed and residents decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags.

By the late 1800s, many communities across the country had begun to celebrate Memorial Day and, after World War I, observances also began to honor those who had died in all of America’s wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated the last Monday in May. (Veterans Day, a day set aside to honor all veterans, living and dead, is celebrated each year on November 11.)

Today, Memorial Day is celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery with a ceremony in which a small American flag is placed on each grave. Also, it is customary for the president or vice-president to give a speech honoring the contributions of the dead and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. About 5,000 people attend the ceremony annually.

Several Southern states continue to set aside a special day for honoring the Confederate dead, which is usually called Confederate Memorial Day.

Honoring Our Fallen Soldiers

May 25th, 2011

If you’re looking for a respectful way to honor our country’s fallen soldiers this Memorial Day, consider paying tribute to the friends and family members in your own immediate circle who have served in this country’s military. A rental projector adds just the right touch of solemnity, without creating a spectacle or breaking the bank.

While many families across the country will be planning back yard barbecues and outdoor social gatherings to enjoy a three-day weekend, it is important to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day, which is to honor and remember soldiers who served this country. This year, why not incorporate a special remembrance into your holiday weekend plans?

Renting a projector for the weekend can serve many purposes, including social gatherings and solemn memorials. When you rent an LCD projector, you can gather with family and friends to enjoy fun social events such as outdoor movie night or a film fest of all your favorite flicks. Rental projectors also add a fun “larger-than-life” twist to gaming competitions and home movie viewing.

Additionally, you can use this same rental projector to honor and acknowledge the members of your family and your immediate circle of friends who have served in this country’s military. Regardless of an individual’s political position or beliefs, Memorial Day brings people together to acknowledge the service of these men and women who have died in service to their country. This need not be a depressing memorial, but rather, a celebration of life and contribution.

Begin by gathering photographs of soldiers that you knew and loved. You may even choose to invite neighbors and friends to contribute digital images of soldiers from their families and social circles. You may also choose to include people that you and the other participants knew, who were killed in the 9/11 disasters. The photos in your slide show do not necessarily need to show these men and women in their uniforms – certainly, they had interests, hobbies and relationships outside of their military services.

Once your images are compiled, begin to assemble the slideshow using a simple software package (such as iMovie on the Mac, or PowerPoint on a PC). You may wish to add music to your slideshow, and end with a slide that depicts a statement expressing gratitude or remembrance.

Once complete, you can proudly share your slide show with friends, family members, and anyone you choose. Depending on the length, you may also wish to upload your video to video sharing sites (or social networking sites) as well.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with playing and having fun during a long Memorial Day weekend, but there is also something to be said for honoring the true meaning of the holiday. Happy Memorial Day to you and yours.

Unique Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

May 2nd, 2011

Searching for a truly unique and special way to celebrate your mom on mother’s day this year? Here are our tips for the most special ways to honor this most special person in your life.

Go Big

She’s been there for you through thick and thin, taken care of you for as long as you can remember, so why not celebrate her in a big way? Think about what your mom loves most, and now add a dash of HUGE to the mix. Your clever surprise might involve anything from an oversized mylar balloon bouquet to a massive feast to a one week cruise for her and a companion. Sure, she’ll say “you shouldn’t have” but deep down inside, she’ll be really glad you did!

Make It Personal

Mothers everywhere love when they are appreciated and honored in personal, special ways, from hand made cards and gifts to personalized stationery to memory books and photo keepsakes. What better way to celebrate mom than with a photo montage of her life? Be sure to include baby photos of yourself and your siblings, pictures of dad, her wedding photo, memorable vacations and outings, and family milestones together. Set it to music (her favorite songs, for bonus points) and watch the waterworks begin as she shows her appreciation with emotional impact for all your thoughtfulness. This is a one-way ticket to golden child status!

Gifts that Keep on Giving

Another unique way to give to your mother is with a gift that keeps on giving. After all, the sacrifices she’s made and the gifts of love, wisdom and nurturing support she’s given you will surely last you a lifetime, so why not reciprocate to some degree? Gifts that keep on giving can include: “of the month” clubs (fruit, jelly, flower, etc.), magazine subscriptions, perennial plants, calendars, paid subscriptions (for whatever she wants or needs: DVD rental services, cable, cellular service, etc.) and the like will remind her month after month of your thoughtful consideration.

Quality Time Together

Few things are as priceless to mom as spending time with the people she loves, and what better way to do that than with a rental projector and family movie marathon? Happy St. Patrick’s Day

March 16th, 2011

Whether or not you’re actually Irish, you may choose to celebrate St. Patrick’s day tomorrow (March 17th). Here is a dear little poem about the shamrock – may it inspire and delight you.

St. Patty’s Day is a perfect day (like any other) to celebrate with a rental projector from Projector123.com. Here are some seasonal movie selections for your enjoyment:             “Waking Ned Devine,” “The Commitments,” “Far and Away,” and “The Field.”

/>The Shamrock of Ireland

There’s a dear little plant
that grows in our isle,
‘Twas St. Patrick himself
sure that set it;
And the sun on his labour
with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye
often wet it.
It thrives through the bog,
through the brake,
through the mireland;
And he called it the dear
little shamrock of Ireland-
The sweet little shamrock,
the dear little shamrock,
The sweet little, green little,
shamrock of Ireland!
Andrew Cherry, Irish Playwright (1762-1812)

What NOT to Give Her for Valentines Day

February 14th, 2011

If you still haven’t picked up a romantic gift for your sweetie, here’s a list of things you should avoid. Remember, it’s not too late to return it if you did!

What NOT to Give Her for Valentine’s Day

1. A box of chocolates, clumsily rearranged in an attempt to hide the fact you ate all the caramel ones.

2. Any food item with the words “diet,” “light,” or “high fiber” on the label.

3. Any video starring Sylvester Stallone or Jim Carrey.

4. Flowers from a hospital’s gift shop–or worse, a mortuary’s.

5. Any household appliance, power tool or other item from the harder side of Sears.

6. A gift certificate.

7. Cash.

8. Anything you could have bought at the gas station mini-mart on the way over, even if you didn’t.

9. An apologetic look and the words “That was today?”

Of course, if you’re really stuck (and quickly running out of time), why not sit down at your computer and print off a little gift certificate of your own? Here’s an idea: make it a coupon for one romantic weekend at home, and then you can rent a projector from Projector123.com. She’s sure to love you for it (especially if you let her pick some of the movies you’ll watch together!)

Planning a Romantic Valentine’s Weekend at Home

February 11th, 2011

In the mood for something a little different this year for Valentine’s Day?  Instead of being corralled into an overcrowded restaurant followed by the obligatory chick flick, why not think outside the box and get a little creative? Here are some great ideas for a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend at home, just you and your sweetie.

Set the Mood

If you’re staying in for Valentine’s Day, it’s important to make the atmosphere feel different than your everyday home experience. Think romance: candles, rose petals, music, flowers in vases, perhaps a bit of incense? No need to slouch around just because you’re at home – why not dress up and add a bit of mystique to the experience?

Use Some Props

Don’t be afraid to use props in creating your romantic encounter: bubble bath, stuffed animals, a romantic movie playing in the background, champagne glasses, a beautifully set table, pillows on the floor, soft textures like feathers or plush velvet…the possibilities are virtually endless.

Include Food

Few things are quite as inherently sensual as food – so let food work to your advantage. It doesn’t have to be all about amorous foods like oysters and chocolate, either – in this case, think texture. Smooth and silky (like velvet soups, creamy custards, and rich risotto) or richly decadent (lobster, steak, dark chocolate or scallops) can help set the mood. Even food as simple as fruit like grapes or strawberries become positively intoxicating when fed to your sweetheart. (If you’re a social drinker, it wouldn’t hurt to have a few bottles of quality wine chilling in the fridge, either!)

Create the Ambiance

One of the most interesting ways to create a wonderfully romantic weekend at home is with a rental projector. Just think about it: a whole weekend spent cuddling and reminiscing about your relationship as you enjoy diversions in the form of film. Choose from the first movie you saw together, to the latest romantic comedy, or whatever strikes your fancy.

Save Some Room

Remember to leave some unplanned time and space in your romantic weekend at home. After all, while it’s nice to have some planned meals or activities, part of the fun is seeing what happens in the spaces in-between. Spontaneity is an integral part of any romantic encounter.

When Valentine’s weekend is over, why not continue the romance? This might be just what you both need to reignite the fires of your relationship and keep the romance going.

Now is the perfect time to rent a projector for your romantic Valentines’ weekend at home. Rates are more affordable than you may think – click here to learn more and get started right now.

Most Romantic Valentine’s Day Ideas

February 7th, 2011

For some, it’s the most beloved and anticipated time of year (while for others, it’s downright dreaded). If you’re looking forward to this year’s Valentine’s Day, here are some tips for making it the most romantic day ever.

Be Creative

Let’s face it: guys get props for creativity. If you’re trying to please your significant other, you’ve got to think outside the box and get at least a little creative. Flowers and chocolates are wonderful, certainly, but that old idea completely lacks inspiration and spontaneity. Instead, consider tickets to a play or concert, dinner at an off-the-wall location, or a daytime picnic in the park. The idea doesn’t have to be outrageous (like hiring a skywriter to blast your names across the sky) or expensive (like anything Richard Branson might come up with) but it should simply demonstrate that you put some thought into this year’s Valentine’s celebration. She’ll love you for it.

Pay Attention

Often, the answer is right under your nose if you’ll only start paying attention (and even if you’re not paying attention most of the time, there’s still time right now to start!) Hints are dropped, flyers or magazines are left lying around, and comments are made – and all of these hold clues to the answer of what might make the perfect gift or activity for Valentine’s Day. Perhaps a gift certificate for a massage is in order if your loved one has been complaining lately of stress, tension or not sleeping well. Maybe a getaway weekend is the key if your partner feels they are working too hard, or say they “need a break.” Has your lady commented recently on something that was just beautiful or exquisite? Buy it for her! If you can’t afford the whole thing (maybe it was a diamond necklace) then make an effort to give her at least part of it (“Honey, I know it’s not as glamorous as that diamond necklace you were admiring, but I wanted to give you something sparkly and beautiful this year because I love you so much”).

Get Their Feedback

There’s nothing worse than spending a lot of time and money planning a special event for that special someone, only to find out it’s not what they really wanted. If you can find simple, subtle ways to get some feedback on some of your ideas, you can avoid this kind of disappointment and plan a Valentine’s Day that truly shines for you both.

When you follow these tips, you are sure to create the most romantic Valentine’s Day either of you has ever experienced. If you’re ready to elevate your Valentine’s Day to positively sublime, why not rent a projector from Projector123.com? Rentals start as low as $129 including round-trip shipping, and the possibilities are virtually endless. Click here now to get started or learn more.
