Traveling on business to sweltering locations this summer? Here are some simple, effective tips to beat the heat and keep your cool.
1. Get misty-eyed
Pack a personal atomizer to keep your skin cool and hydrated. Misting a light layer of water on your skin has an instant cooling effect. Be sure to empty it (or pack it empty) before you head through security, and you can fill it from a water fountain or bottled water once you get through beyond security. An atomizer can be as simple as a small plastic spray bottle purchased at a drug store, or as fancy as a stainless steel atomizer from a specialty shop – the choice is yours!
2. Dress in layers
This enables you to add or subtract layers as the environmental temperature changes, ensuring that you stay fresh and comfortable. We all know it can get quite stuffy on the airplane during boarding! As an added tip, avoid linen or linen blends that tend to wrinkle beyond recognition, since you’ll be sitting in small spaces during your travels. You’ll never feel like the king of legroom on an airplane, even if you fly first class!

3. Just say “ship it”
Avoid schlepping extra luggage or bags – instead, ship what you can and let your baggage meet you at your destination. United Airlines even offers luggage shipping at prices that aren’t too far beyond the “extra bag” fees charged by most airlines. Remember, there’s no need to drag your rental projector around when Projector123.com can ship it directly to your final destination (with return freight included).
4. Expect crowds
Kids are out of school and family vacations will soon be underway, so prepare for crowds, expect first-time travelers and give yourself ample time to get through security. And above all else, remember that patience is a virtue!
5. Pack your sunscreen
Even if you expect to be stuck indoors in meetings during the whole trip, pack your sunscreen just in case. You never know when you might be surprised with an extra day, free time, or a lunch outdoors and there’s no reason to pay $12 for hotel sunscreen if you don’t have to.
